A partner in Torkin Manes’ Labour & Employment Group, Peter has built a robust and multifaceted practice that encompasses all manner of labour and employment related matters. His vast experience has equipped him to advise and represent a broad range of clients in both union and non-union settings, and in a multitude of industries, including banking, cannabis, education, fashion, finance, health-care, hospitality, manufacturing, marketing, not-for-profit, transportation and wholesale distribution, among others.

To his practice, Peter brings more than 30 years of experience in helping employers navigate the full spectrum of the employment relationship – from hiring to post-termination stages. In addition to his expert drafting of reliable contracts of employment, restrictive covenants and workplace policies, Peter provides proactive advice on compliance with employment-related legislation, support and guidance in the conduct of workplace investigations, and strategic direction on discipline and termination.

When matters escalate, Peter’s clients benefit from his even temperament, strategic mindset and exceptional advocacy skills when representing them before both the courts and administrative tribunals in the defence of wrongful dismissals, applications for injunctive relief, Employment Standards Act proceedings, and charges under the Occupational Health & Safety Act. He also regularly advises employers on Human Rights Code matters and defends them in proceedings before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, where necessary.

In the union environment, Peter helps employers respond to union certification campaigns, deal with daily administration of collective agreements, defend unfair labour practice complaints or other applications under the Labour Relations Act, and resolve or litigate grievances before boards of arbitration.

With service excellence top of mind, Peter is an exceedingly responsive, practical, and effective advisor and advocate, considered to be an invaluable resource by the clients, HR departments, and the corporate lawyers that rely on his counsel.
